Psychological and emotional abuse is any act including confinement, isolation, verbal assault, humiliation, intimidation, infantilization, or any other treatment which may diminish the sense of identity, dignity and self-worth. Common signs of psychological abuse are depression, low self esteem, suicidal thoughts and anxiety.*

It causes serious behavioural, cognitive, emotional or mental disorder. It can cause Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Often it occurs in the family and the vast majority of victims of this kind of violence are women and children.
